The Service Portfolio Management process is responsible for managing the service portfolio throughout the service lifecycle, focusing on the value that services deliver to the business.

The Portfolio is the representation of all services and their status. Commanding the portfolio is a dynamic method for managing investments in service management throughout the organization and directing those investments to create value. This collection of services also includes some that are no longer available or that are still under development. The collection containing only the available services at a given moment is called the Service Catalog.
